8. Water Management in the City of Tarnów

Tarnów is struggling with inadequate stormwater drainage infrastructure, resulting in local flooding, particularly in urbanised areas. Nearly half of the city lacks an appropriate rainwater sewage system, and the uneven distribution of watercourses hinders effective management. The increasing coverage of surfaces with impermeable materials, the lack of a full inventory of watercourses, and the growing number of water-related conflicts confirm the urgent need for action in this area.

The objective is to protect Tarnów from the effects of floods and flash flooding, increase water retention, and improve the stormwater drainage system. Planned activities include developing a flood hazard concept and mitigation strategies, the systematic maintenance of existing watercourses, and the construction of a rainwater sewage system on Sosnowa Street.

    1. Wersja Techniczna (Rzeczowa i profesjonalna)
“Modernising and regularly maintaining the city’s watercourses—which span over 70 km in Tarnów—will allow for better stormwater management and increased resident safety. To date, maintenance has been infrequent, leading to overgrowth, siltation, and restricted flow capacity. Regular mowing of the banks, dredging the bed, and removing blockages will ensure effective retention and the free flow of water.
